WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
St Stephen's UCC has its roots in the German Reformed tradition and was founded as a community church in the borough. St. Stephen's became part of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of America and then joined the United Church of Christ at its inception in 1957. We are a member of the North Penn Association of churches in the Keystone Conference of the United Church of Christ. We are also a member of the Pennridge Ministerium.
MISSION STATEMENT:
St. Stephen's United Church of Christ,
gathered to know, grow and show God's love.
VISION STATEMENT:
We seek to enact our mission in our church,
our neighborhood, and our community
by reaching out as living branches of God's love.
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH:
We believe in a God who loves us and has created us in God’s image; who is ever present and all knowing; who grants us free will; who gives us hope and strength; and who makes all things possible.
We believe Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection models for us God’s healing love and forgiveness.
We believe as the Christ, Jesus teaches us to unconditionally welcome, love, and accept others.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is within and all around us, empowering us to be the church and live a life of faith.
We believe that the Holy Spirit calls each of us to recognize our spiritual gifts and talents and to use them in the service of others.
We believe that the image of God is reflected in a diverse, affirming, and inclusive community.
Guided by these beliefs, we seek to know, grow, and show God’s love welcoming one another as God loves us:
We know God’s love as inspired through the scriptures; as discerned through meditation and prayer; and as revealed through the relationships we cultivate with God and one another.
We grow in God’s love by practicing our faith in daily living; by a personal commitment to spiritual growth; by sharing in baptism and communion; and by living out our faith.
We show God’s love by nurturing a community where all are safe to explore their discipleship, by welcoming and ministering to the stranger, and by caring for all God’s children.
We do all these things to the glory of God. Amen.
